In our clinic in Warsaw, we perform bone augmentation for patients who wish to regain the possibility of implant treatment or improve the stability of dentures. Thanks to advanced techniques and an individual approach, we ensure high procedure effectiveness and comfort at every stage of treatment.

When is bone augmentation necessary?

Bone augmentation is primarily indicated when the quantity or quality of bone tissue does not allow for the safe placement of a dental implant. Most often, this applies to situations after tooth loss, when alveolar process atrophy occurs, but also after injuries, inflammation, or long-term use of removable dentures. Bone reconstruction may also be necessary before prosthetic treatment if the stability of future restorations would be insufficient. The final decision on the necessity of augmentation is made by the doctor based on detailed radiological diagnostics and an analysis of the patient’s anatomical conditions.

How to prepare for a bone augmentation procedure?

Preparation for bone augmentation begins with a detailed consultation and diagnostics, including X-rays or computed tomography, which allow for the assessment of the size and location of the bone defect. Before the procedure, you should inform the doctor about all medications taken, chronic diseases, and allergies. It is also recommended to maintain exemplary oral hygiene, avoid smoking and alcohol for a few days before the procedure, and eat a light meal on the day of the procedure (unless general anesthesia is planned).

How does the bone augmentation procedure work?

01

Anesthesia

The bone augmentation procedure is performed under local anesthesia, and in the case of larger reconstructions – also under sedation or general anesthesia.

02

Performing the procedure

The procedure involves incising the gum and exposing the bone at the site of the defect, followed by the precise placement of bone substitute material (this can be the patient’s own bone or a special biomaterial). If necessary, protective membranes are used to secure the augmentation site and support the regeneration process.

03

Suturing and recommendations

After the new bone volume is formed, the wound is sutured, and the patient receives detailed post-treatment recommendations. The entire procedure usually takes 30 to 90 minutes, and any discomfort felt after the procedure is minor and quickly subsides.

What are the post-treatment recommendations after bone augmentation?

Proper care after bone augmentation is key to treatment success and efficient healing. For a few days after the procedure, physical exertion should be avoided, soft and cool foods should be consumed, and cold compresses should be applied to the cheek to reduce swelling. The doctor may recommend taking antibiotics, painkillers, and anti-inflammatory medications. Gentle oral hygiene and the use of antiseptic rinses as recommended are very important. Post-operative check-ups allow for the monitoring of the healing process and quick response to any complications if necessary.

Rest and diet

Rest after the procedure, avoid exertion, and consume foods that will not irritate the augmentation site.

Hygiene and medications

Maintain gentle oral hygiene, use prescribed rinses and medications as per the doctor’s instructions.

Control and observation

Attend follow-up visits regularly, and in case of pain, swelling, or fever, contact the doctor.
